Yomitan Pottery Festival

Feb 23 and 24th, 2019
Yachimun-ichi, Yomitan Pottery Festival is on this weekend in Yomitan Farmers Market (Yunta-ichiba).

I did a little investigation for this. I went to see what kind of items are on sale this year last Friday and there were so many items I wanted to buy. There were over 20 pottery houses and I saw quite wide range of pottery from young casual design to traditional Okinawan style.

They all sell their items with outlet price but real pleasure is look for good bargain items amongst them. Well, to do that, you would need to get to the venue first day in the morning 10am on the dot. I don’t think I can make it but I will still go and see if I can find the items I saw on Friday.

Car park is always issue with this festival. As tents are all lined up in a car park of the farmers market, you need to park outside of the car park area. Don’t worry there will be someone directing you where to park. Sometime, you need to park a bit far and walk but I say it is worth it.

At the festival, Harusapo, a gardening center also sell some nice flower pots with quite reasonable price. My mum bought few pots two years ago because she couldn’t resist bargain prices and we will have them in our garden.

From what I see and hear over the years, a lot of young artists sell potteries at this festival. If your taste is more traditional style, you might want to target another festival which usually held in December time. The venue is normally in Yachimun no Sato. Pottery Village in Yomitan.
